10/10 for this on musical merits alone. 11/10 for Neil being generally awesome.

This is such a gorgeous song. So beautiful and heartfelt... an incredible love song when one is decades into a relationship. But I have to wonder what goes through his head now when singing it... does he think of Peggy still, or Darryl? What the hell happened there? I had just finished his autobiography Waging Heavy Peace, where he repeatedly says he never could have done what he's done without her, when I heard the news. I'm still shaking my head.

Beautiful version.
In my opinion, the MTV Unplugged performance was one of his very best. Beautiful smooth versions like this, unusual instruments like a pump organ (watch him peddle on Like a Hurricane, and even a broom mic'ed up on Harvest Moon). Great support musicians and vocalists added with the perfect touch. Wonderful performance I highly recommend!

Of course that opened up a whole new area of musical discovery for young Jim.
I will never forget that performance either. Just him on a folding chair, surrounded by guitars. Stunning.
I bought the CD and was disappointed with the studio version. Oh well.

I've always been disappointed that his Linc Volt biodiesel electric car malfunctioned on our documentary day here in NYC. f*ck! I had a thousand questions for him. But no car, no shoot, no NY, no Steve Colbert, no Bill O'Reilly (that part I didn't miss so much...). Neil was a combo of chagrined and really pissed. The electric battery company had just changed ownership from U.S. to China, perhaps the new ones were defective. And there we were, at the corner of 73rd and Park, as he tried to get the electrics turning the engine. One or two bad cells screws up the entire chain, and he was kind of steaming. C'est la vie. So when I hear a Neil song, and read the digs and negs on his voice, I take it just a tiny tad....personally.
Especially on a lovely song like this, which is so atypical of the author of Like a Hurricane, Throw Your Hatred Down, etc.
