7. Paradise Lost Review - ThisGenGaming
10 apr 2021 · Paradise Lost is an alternative-history walking simulator that takes you into the bowels of a deserted Nazi bunker full of creepy experiments.
Paradise Lost is an alternative-history walking simulator that takes you into the bowels of a deserted Nazi bunker full of creepy experiments as the young protagonist searches for any remaining signs of life. Szymon, the 12-year old boy we’re controlling, sets out to explore the desolate wastelands of a post-nuclear winter after he loses the only person he’s ever known in his life: his mother. He doesn’t seem to have stumbled unto the bunker the game takes place in on accident though, he went there with a purpose: find the man who’s present in the picture he found. Cue the fake surprised look as the game takes about 1.5 hours to finally confirm your suspicions that this is actually your father. Normally I try to avoid any spoilers in a review, but I’d be absolutely flabbergasted if no one saw this coming. And that’s perhaps one of the biggest issues with a game that has such a strong narrative focus: you can see almost all of the story beats coming from a mile away and the big “WOW” moments Paradise Lost thinks it’s dropping on you actually fall flat. That’s not to say you won’t be curious about what’s going on in this bunker. On the surface (or should I say below the surface) it seems like it’s just a hiding spot where people went to stay safe from whatever was going on topside, but the deeper you go, the more intriguing the place becomes. The atmosphere is unsettling, to say the least. You’re exploring huge cavernous environments and it’s mindboggling how big the place real...

9. Paradise Lost Reviews - Metacritic
The pace of the game is slow, there isn't a whole lot of depth to be found anywhere in Paradise Lost, and it's not without its frame rate drops and bugs either.

Paradise Lost is a game that takes place in an alternative post-WW2 nuclear apocalypse, a great premise for a history buff like me; one that could be even as good as John Milton’s Paradise Lost. However, given the advertisement, gameplay, and story, I’d rather read the poem instead. Paradise Lost is a “game” that follows...

17. Paradise Lost by John Milton | English | Loughborough University
The poem is a retelling of the story of Adam and Eve from the biblical book of Genesis which describes the creation of Heaven and Earth and of Adam and Eve.
The ‘books’ are what we would think of as chapters or sections. The whole book is an epic poem – which is a long story told in verse form. The poem is written in blank verse, or lines of unrhymed iambic pentameter, and is over 10,000 lines long. Milton had become blind by the time he composed much of this poem and so dictated it to different scribes including his daughter, Deborah.

John Milton’s Paradise Lost has been many things to many people — a Christian epic, a comment on the English Civil War, the epitome of poetic ambiguity — but it is first of all a pleasure to read. Drawing on sources as varied as Wordsworth, Hitchcock, and Conan Doyle, author Philip Pullman considers the sonic beauty and expert storytelling of Milton’s masterpiece and the influence it has had on his own work.

To undergraduate eyes Dr. John Cooke looked older than he probably was. Ivory-haired, thin but potbellied, with thick glasses that magnified his eyes and a hearing aid that he was constantly adjusting, he had all the credentials of advanced years—but it was the cane that unmistakably broadcast elderliness. For three years at Rockhurst College in Kansas City I was his only student in ancient Greek, and “class” met in his office where he would sit in a straight-backed chair, leaning forward on his cane centered between his spread legs and peering intently at the desk where I sat, just a couple of feet away, reading and translating. Whenever I made a particularly egregious error in my translation, he would wince and thump the cane impatiently two or three times. Our one-hour tutorial often ran overtime as he would follow the recitation with an impromptu lecture on anything from Greek battle gear to ancient substitutes for toilet paper (shards of pottery!). At these extended sessions, Dr. Cooke sometimes grilled me on the larger, and often missing, dimensions of my education. Who were my favored composers? Had I been to see the Caravaggio at the Nelson Gallery? And once, while trying to illustrate classical rhetorical devices like chiasmus and aposiopesis, he cited examples in English from Milton. I must have had a conspicuously blank look on my face because he rapped that cane and growled, “You have read Paradise Lost, Mr. Crossley, have you not?” I confessed that I had tried...
